Information Requirements for Natural Ventilation in an IFC-based BIM-BEPS workflow

Natural ventilation can reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions while improving indoor air quality and thermal comfort. This strategy can be supported by building energy simulations, but few studies address natural ventilation in BIM-BEM workflows. Although IFC facilitates data exchange, challenges like data loss and unclear requirements must be addressed.
Using the IDM methodology, this study identifies geometric and non-geometric information requirements for natural ventilation simulations. By organizing the non-geometric requirements with the bSDD approach, we enable future enrichment of IFC models, supporting more accurate building energy performance assessments and advancing sustainable design practices.
