As an important historical and cultural heritage of the city, the ancient city wall is surrounded by water to improve its defensive function. The cooling effect of water (WCE) has been widely confirmed, but the effect of city wall on WCE is still unknown. Therefore, the effect of the city wall on the WCE was quantitatively analyzed in this paper by combining the field measurement and ENVI-met simulation. The results showed that the city wall had little influence on the WCE near the water side, but the influence on the back water side can reach 0.89 oC.

The influence of city wall was the greatest when air blowing from the water side. And the influence increased with the increase of the height of the city wall and the increase of the wind speed. Furthermore, the addition of entrances and the planting of trees can reduce the influence of the city wall, which provided a new perspective on the design of the waterfront space around the ancient city wall.
