BS2025 / Program / Annex 91 Workshop
Workshop: Annex 91 – openBIM for Energy Efficient Buildings
Room 2
August 27, 1:30 pm-3:00 pm
This workshop explores and addresses some of the challenges in linking Building Information Models (BIM) to Building Energy Models (BEM). It is organized as part of the IEA Annex 91 on “openBIM for Energy Efficient Buildings”.
As most actors in building simulation domain will know, the integration of BIM and BEM remains a challenge, in spite of decades of efforts on the subject. Issues such as incomplete data imports, errors, and the need for manual intervention undermine the benefits of BIM-BEM integration, delaying progress toward more sustainable, energy-efficient designs. Furthermore, many stakeholders have yet to fully embrace standard practices for reliable BIM-BEM data exchange.
This workshop aims to bring together experts in BIM, building performance simulation (particularly in terms of energy), and building engineering to identify and discuss obstacles, share experiences, and collaborate on innovative solutions.
Key content of the workshop:
- Presentation and overview of IEA EBC Annex 91
- Current limitations in data exchange between BIM and BEM tools
- Addressing gaps in standards and workflows for integrated BIM-BEM processes
- Enhancing collaboration between design, engineering and energy management stakeholders.
Who should attend:
The workshop is designed for professionals in:
- Building Information Modeling
- Building Energy Modeling and Simulation
- Sustainable construction and design
- Energy analysis and performance optimization
Participants will benefit from networking with leading experts in the field, gain insights into some of the latest advancements and challenges, and will help to contribute the future of BIM – BPS integration.
