Veronica Soebarto is a Professor at The University of Adelaide, School of Architecture and Civil Engineering. She is the first female recipient of IBPSA Outstanding Young Contributor Award (1997) after completing her PhD (1993-1996) and Postdoc (1996-1997) at Texas A&M University, College Station, USA.
During that time, she developed the user interface for Ener-Win, Energy Simulation Software for Aiding Building Design (Ener-Win engine was written by Larry Degelman at Texas A&M University). In 1998 she joined The University of Adelaide in South Australia and became the first female convenor of IBPSA Australasia in the same year, replacing Dr Peter Lyon, until 2006, during which time she also became a member of IBPSA (World) Public Relation Committee.
She held the first IBPSA Australasia Scientific Conference in 2006 and was the Chair of the Executive Scientific Committee of Building Simulation 2011 Conference held in Sydney. She was appointed as IBPSA News Editor-in-Chief replacing Larry Degelman in 2008 (until 2011) and Chair of the Public Relation/Communication Committee in 2011 (until 2017). She also served as IBPSA At Large Director from 2016 to 2021 and Editorial Board member of Journal of Building Performance Simulation from 2015 to 2024.
She has been teaching building performance simulation (BPS) to architecture students at The University of Adelaide since 1998 (and believed to be the first architecture academia to teach BPS in an architecture program at the tertiary level in Australia).
Since then, she has published numerous papers relating to the use of BPS in design, with international colleagues as well as her students, in Building Simulation and Architectural Science Conferences. She has recently written a chapter on building simulation for a forthcoming book “Good Houses: Environmental Design and Evaluation” (Routledge, October 2025).
